Leah Hayes Presents New Children's Book I Touched the Sun
Former Newbury resident Leah Hayes returns to celebrate the publication of her first children's book I Touched the Sun.
Leah Hayes grew up in Newbury. Her mother, Nancy Hayes, started and ran the very popular Musical Suite in the Tannery for years.
Since then, she has become a graphic novelist, illustrator, and creator of the New York Times bestselling graphic novel Not Funny Ha-Ha. In addition to writing and illustrating several books, her editorial work appears often in the New Yorker, New York Times, and many other publications.
On Saturday, June 3rd at 3pm at Jabberwocky, Leah will read, discuss, and sign copies of her new children's book, I Touched the Sun, for children and adults alike. Refreshments and fun provided for all.
Charming, deceptively simple, and utterly profound, I Touched the Sun is a story made to delight everyone. Leah's delicate, yet sure handed linework and intentional use of color come together harmoniously to create a distinctly minimal visual style - the perfect companion to a tale that emanates warmth and a quiet wisdom.
In a rave review, The Horn Book says "Hayes' understated and unfussy text provides a sense of reassurance that, though darkness and insecurity may appear in our lives, the light within us never truly disappears."
The event is free and open to the public.
