Linda Greenlaw, author of Seaworthy

06/04/2010 7:00 pm

FRIDAY JUNE 4th AT 7 PM, AT THE JABBERWOCKY BOOKSHOP, NEWBURYPORT,  AUTHOR LINDA GREENLAW PRESENTS HER LATEST MEMOIR, “SEAWORTHY, A SWORDBOAT CAPTAIN RETURNS TO THE SEA.”

Linda Greenlaw’s first memoir, “The Hungry Ocean”, became an international bestseller.  Not only was she the only female swordfishing boat captain, she was the most successful captain in the industry’s fleet, and she was the captain of the sister ship —the one who turned around and saved her boat and crew, -- to the fishing boat that went down in a horrific storm memorialized in the book and movie, “The Perfect Storm.”

Since then, Greenlaw has written a series of books about the small Maine island she lives on and the fisherman there, a series of mysteries with the same locale, and a cookbook of New England specialties.

She will be speaking Friday night about her return to the grueling and exacting work of a swordfishing boat captain. The New York Times  raved about her book, “a beautiful book… a story of triumph, of a woman not only making it but succeeding at the highest level in one of the most male-dominated and dangerous professions.”

This event is free and will be held at The Jabberwocky Bookshop, 50 Water St. Newburyport.  For more information, call 978-465-9359 or visit www.jabberwockybookshop.com
